14th Round of Iranian Presidential Elections Kicks Off with Prominent Candidates

New Candidates for President Ebrahim Raisi’s Replacement in Iran

Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for Iran’s election headquarters, announced that the registration process for the 14th round of presidential elections began on Thursday. According to him, several individuals have already registered as potential candidates to replace the late President Ebrahim Raisi, who passed away in a helicopter crash last month. Some of the notable candidates include Mehmedreza Sabajian, Mozatfa Khoachbian, Abbas Mokhtada’i, Khodrat Ali Hashemtian, Abd al-Nasser Hamti, Saeed Jalili, and Ali Larijani.

Ali-Reza Zakhani is an Iranian politician who has been serving as the mayor of Tehran since 2021. He was previously a member of the Islamic Council representing the constituencies of Damwand and Firuzkoh in the 11th term. Habibullah Dehmarde is a governor of several provinces in Iran and a member of the Islamic Parliament in both the tenth and eleventh terms.

Seyed Ahmed Rasulinjad is another politician representing two constituencies in Iran’s Islamic Council during its eleventh term. He has also worked with Vahid Hakanian as his deputy for special affairs in Iran’s leader office of Islamic Revolution. Syed Mohammad-Reza Mirtajodini was previously Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs and has been a Member of Parliament for two terms. Zahra Elhian is also a conservative Iranian politician who served as a member of parliament between 2008-2012 and 2020-2024.
