The first round of the 2022 French legislative elections has reached a turnout of 25.09 percent, surpassing the previous high of 18.43% in 2017 and is the highest figure in several decades, according to the Ministry of the Interior. Despite this, current voting intention polls suggest that participation could reach 64-66%.
Leaders from various political parties, including leftists, far-right, and conservatives, have participated in the voting process. Notable figures such as former Socialist President Françoise Hollande, former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, and National Group leader Marine Le Pen have all voted.
Despite this increase in interest among French citizens, election day is still progressing normally with no major issues reported so far. President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte were among the latecomers to vote but did not make any statements to the press as it is customary during French elections.
