In the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider exited early due to discomfort in his right elbow. The 2023 MLB season has already seen several pitchers land on the injured list, including big names like Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer.
After struggling for four innings, Strider was removed from the game due to his elbow pain. Despite being known for his impressive performance last season where he led MLB in wins and strikeouts, this game was not one of his best. He allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Braves manager Brian Snitker mentioned that Strider complained about his elbow during the game and felt uncomfortable with how it was feeling. The MRI scheduled for Saturday will help determine the extent of the injury and whether or not surgery is necessary. An extended absence by Strider would be a significant loss for the Braves, who are currently leading the NL East with a 4-2 record to start the season. Last year, Strider posted a 20-5 record with 281 strikeouts and finished fourth in NL Cy Young Award voting.
