Dave McCarty, a former member of the Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series-winning team, passed away in Oakland, California at the age of 54. The Red Sox confirmed that his death was due to a “cardiac event.” McCarty was part of the reunion of the 2004 team earlier this year at Fenway Park where they honored Tim Wakefield and his wife, Stacy, who had both recently passed away from cancer.
McCarty was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the No. 3 overall pick in 1991. He made his MLB debut with the Twins in 1993 and went on to play for six more teams over 11 seasons, including the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics
