Alabama A&M Board of Trustees Approves Construction of New Science Building and Student Amenities

The Alabama A&M University (AAMU) Board of Trustees has approved the construction of a new science building along with a student amenities building. During its regular board meeting on Friday, the board approved a $249,631,874 budget for the university while also approving a new $82 million science building and a $58 million student amenities building.

The university said the new science building will triple the current academic STEM footprint on campus. AAMU stated that the student amenities building will host gathering spaces, centralized campus services, food options and student support facilities.

“These approvals by our Board of Trustees confirm their commitment to the success of this institution,” AAMU President Daniel K. Wims stated. “Their efforts solidify our growth and posture in today’s higher education landscape. As we move forward, we are confident that our recent accomplishments will continue to attract the best faculty and students.”

In addition to these approvals, the board also approved a 2.5 percent cost of living increase for faculty and staff members at AAMU. They also approved the relocation of WJAB, AAMU’s public radio station, to a property at 3812 John F. Kennedy Circle and purchased 101 Whitney Avenue for expansion purposes. Lastly, they established the Ronald & Patricia McCalep-McIntosh Sr. Endowed Chair in Biology at AAMU as part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen their academic programs in STEM fields.
