Sheikh Tahnoon of the UAE discusses technology in Washington

During his visit to Washington, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, the UAE National Security Adviser and chairman of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and ADQ, met with Jake Sullivan, his U.S. counterpart. This meeting highlighted Abu Dhabi’s alignment with the U.S. on technology development, as evidenced by the $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft in G42, a local artificial intelligence champion, earlier this year with support from the Biden administration.

Sheikh Tahnoon’s visit to Washington also included a delegation of other Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund executives. Their goal was to strengthen strategic relations between the UAE and the U.S., as communicated by the Emirati leader during their discussions with Sullivan on regional and global issues of mutual concern.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Omar Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, emphasized the UAE’s desire for a partnership with the U.S concerning technology development. Additionally, Sheikh Tahnoon met with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt M. Campbell at the State Department in Foggy Bottom on Monday to discuss artificial intelligence and driving economic growth both bilaterally and in regions like Africa and India according to a readout from the State Department.
