The Alamo Heights girls’ golf team has claimed victory in Class 5A for the third time in four years, winning the UIL 5A state championship. The Mules secured the title by a narrow margin of just four strokes, finishing with a total score of 601 over the two days of competition at Legacy Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
Julia Vollmer, a commit to Abilena Christian University, led the team with a two-over-par 146 and now holds three state championships within the Mules program. Vollmer shared that being in the last group on the 18th hole each year and receiving hugs from her teammates has created lasting memories for her. The win was emotional for Vollmer and her teammates, with tears of joy and bittersweet feelings as they celebrated their success but also faced the reality of parting ways as seniors.
Kat Salisbury, a commit to the University of St. Andrews, expressed the overwhelming emotions of the win, highlighting the fulfillment of achieving their goal and the bond shared among teammates. The Alamo Heights girls’ golf team previously won the state title in 2021, 2023, and now 2024, with a runner-up finish in 2022 by just one stroke.
