The Brookings Health System’s ambulance team operates around the clock every day of the year, responding to over 2,600 calls annually. The constant use of their current vehicles has led to significant wear and tear over the years beyond just mileage and engine wear. Inflation has also driven up the cost of purchasing a new ambulance, making fundraising efforts crucial to offset these expenses.

Paramedic Tom Papiernik, who has been with the Brookings Health System for 13 years, emphasized the importance of the ambulance service in providing emergency care on the go. They respond to all 911 calls in Brookings County and even extend their services to neighboring counties in Minnesota.

Brittany Venekamp, the Brookings Health System’s Foundation Director, highlighted the importance of events like the ‘Aiming to Inspire’ fundraiser in supporting local healthcare in the community. The annual fundraiser and raffle play a critical role in raising funds for the purchase of a new ambulance.
