In a stunning turn of events, Air India has arranged for an aircraft with call sign AIC24WC to fly the T20 World champions India from Bridgetown in Barbados to New Delhi. The flight will depart from Bridgetown at 4:30 am local time, with the team scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Thursday at 6 am Indian Standard Time (IST).
The aircraft flew from New Jersey to Bridgetown, where the team will board the flight. The Indian media, which was covering the T20 World Cup in Barbados, will also be on the same flight as part of a special arrangement made by the BCCI to get stranded mediapersons back home.
Unfortunately, Hurricane ‘Beryl’ hit Barbados and led to flight cancellations and a temporary shutdown of the Grantley Adams International Airport. However, everything seems to be back on track now that Hurricane ‘Beryl’ has passed.
The flight from Barbados to Delhi is estimated to take around 16 hours, barring any additional delays. If everything goes according to plan, this historic flight will bring one of India’s greatest cricket teams back home after their triumphant victory in the T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on June 29.
