Rublev defeats Daniel to advance to second round of French Open

Andrey Rublev, the sixth seed at the 2023 French Open, faced a challenging opponent in his first round match against Taro Daniel. Despite the struggles, Rublev managed to secure a 6-2 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 7-5 victory over his Japanese rival on Court Simonne-Mathieu. The 26-year-old Russian is determined to surpass the quarter-finals stage at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Throughout the match, Rublev’s on-court demeanor was put to the test as he showed signs of frustration by throwing his racquet to the ground after missing set points in the second set. However, he displayed resilience and determination to ultimately clinch the win in three hours and eleven minutes. Rublev is now set to face the winner of the match between Pedro Martinez and Thiago Agustin Tirante in the next round.

Meanwhile, French number one Ugo Humbert, who is also known as “The Machine,” suffered a defeat at home against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego with a score of 6-4 2-6 6-4 6-3. World number three Carlos Alcaraz and British player Andy Murray are also scheduled to compete on the first day of the tournament in Paris. Alcaraz will face lucky loser J.J. Wolf while Murray is set to play against his old rival Stan Wawrinka in an exciting night session on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
