Apple Explores Integration of Google’s AI Technology, OpenAI’s ChatGPT in Future iOS and iPadOS Updates

Apple Teases Integration of Gemini with Future Systems at WWDC 2024

Apple’s senior vice president of software and engineering, Craig Federighi, discussed the potential of using Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, Gemini, at the annual developers conference (WWDC 2024). The conference showcased updates to various operating systems such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS Sequoia, visionOS 2, and more.

Among the most anticipated features revealed was the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT system, powered by the GPT 4.0 model, into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and the new macOS version. This chatbot is designed to assist users in generating content and writing tools. Rumors of this integration had already been circulating through analyst Mark Gurman’s newsletters.

During the conference, Federighi hinted that Apple aims to give users the freedom to choose AI models like Google’s Gemini in the future. While this was briefly mentioned after the conference, it was not officially confirmed by Apple. There were speculations that Apple was in talks with Google to incorporate its generative AI engine into future iPhone software updates. However, no concrete announcements were made at WWDC 2024 as discussions with media concluded.

Despite this lack of concrete announcements from Apple regarding its plans for incorporating more AI models into its operating systems in the future, it is clear that the company is exploring new technologies and keeping its options open for future developments.
