A joint statement issued by the governments of Armenia and the USA

The second session of the Armenia-United States strategic dialogue took place in Yerevan, resulting in a joint statement issued by the governments of Armenia and the United States of America. During the session, discussions were centered on efforts to promote mutual prosperity, economic and energy resilience through enhanced cooperation leading up to 2024.

The USA reiterated its support for Armenia’s sovereignty, independence, democracy, and territorial integrity in accordance with the Declaration of Alma-Ata in 1991. The crucial talks held during the Armenia-EU-US high-level joint meeting in Brussels on April 5 were also highlighted.

According to the joint statement, USAID pledged to assist Armenia in developing a transportation strategy as the foundation for Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” vision. The United States acknowledged the economic and social challenges faced by Armenia in assisting displaced persons and refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh and committed to supporting the government’s efforts in this regard.

The participants of the session emphasized the pivotal role of US support in initiatives related to transforming the defense sector and developing the law enforcement system of Armenia. The USA plans to continue its support through consulting programs, army-to-army contacts, the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program, professional military education opportunities, and a long-term state partnership program with the Kansas National Guard.

Both parties underscored the importance of respecting human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law, emphasizing their commitment to shared democratic values and the goal of fostering a democratic, prosperous, and peaceful Armenia.
