Arnold and Co.: Oklahoma’s Quest to Bolster Quarterback Depth with Steele Wasel’s Arrival

Oklahoma is determined to strengthen its quarterback position as they prepare for the 2024 season, with Jackson Arnold as QB1. The team is focusing on building a strong depth chart behind Arnold. In the last recruiting cycle, Oklahoma brought in two new quarterbacks: Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg. Hawkins, a four-star quarterback and an Oklahoma legacy, is competing for the backup role, while Zurbrugg, a standout field general from Ohio, has joined the team. Additionally, Casey Thompson, son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson, has joined the program to provide veteran leadership.

Recently, General Booty transferred to Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, leaving an opening in the quarterback room. The latest addition to the team is Steele Wasel, a transfer from Akron. Wasel is known for his powerful arm and impressive size at 6-foot-4 and over 200 pounds. In his senior year at Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Oklahoma, Wasel threw for over 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns. He redshirted at Akron last year and still has four years of eligibility left.

The addition of Wasel is a significant development for the Sooners’ quarterback room as he brings valuable experience and talent to the team. Keep up with all the latest news on Oklahoma by following @SoonersWire on Twitter and Facebook or by following Bryant on Twitter @thatmanbryant.
