Art and Science Unite to Explore AI: The Challenges and Implications at El Aleph Festival

The eighth edition of El Aleph: Festival of Art and Science will take place from May 8 to 19 with the theme Challenges of artificial intelligence and other intelligences. Over 255 participants will be involved in more than 72 activities and 90 functions, including talks, workshops, plays, music, dance, and cinema.

The festival aims to enrich the audience’s perspective on artificial intelligence and its implications on society through a diverse range of activities and presentations by prominent scientists and artists from around the world. One of the festival highlights is the film Dwellers among the waters, powered by artificial intelligence, which questions perennial human conditions through visual pieces. Another significant presentation is Gloria Contreras’ Mozart Requiem executed by the UNAM Choreographic Workshop.

The event will showcase visual conceptual art in various venues, including the Colegio de San Ildefonso, which will host the major exhibition Face to Face for Mexico by Brian Eno. This will be the second location in Latin America to present the exhibit. Additionally, the Palace of Autonomy will feature six exhibitions that utilize different artificial intelligence tools. Collaborations with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City and the Colegio de San Ildefonso have facilitated the selection of these venues for the festival activities.

The festival will explore various perspectives on AI in different spheres of reflection such as labor, economics, ethics, interpersonal relationships etc., while experts discuss two polarized positions on AI- apocalyptic and integrated- across different areas such as engineering education medicine ethics humanism etc., The goal is to foster a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence and its impact on various aspects of human life.
