Aspen School District Receives $33,000 Rebate for Energy-Saving Upgrades: Triple Win Scenario Boosts Classroom Programs and the Environment

Black Hills Energy awards rebate to Aspen School District for implementing energy-efficient technology

The Aspen School District recently received a $33,342 rebate check from Black Hills Energy in recognition of its commitment to energy-saving upgrades. The rebate was granted as part of the Black Hills Energy Small Business Direct Install Program, which aims to support businesses in becoming more energy efficient.

Joe Waneka, the Facilities Director at ASD, stated that the district received the rebate primarily due to the installation of a new boiler that operates at an impressive efficiency rate of 92%, a significant improvement from the previous boiler’s 65% efficiency rate. Under the Black Hills Energy program, there is a range of measures that qualify for rebates, including HVAC upgrades, weather stripping, pipe insulation, and boiler replacements.

Waneka emphasized that by investing the rebate money into more energy-efficient products, ASD aims to secure additional rebates in the future. This creates a cycle of savings and efficiency improvements. In fact, Waneka stated that ASD plans to utilize the rebate funds to cover several months of energy costs and further enhance its energy-efficient initiatives.

The news release highlights numerous benefits of the rebate program, including how it directly contributes to cost savings for classroom programs within Aspen School District. According to Waneka, this initiative is a triple win scenario where cost savings from energy efficiency initiatives are reinvested for further enhancements. Moreover, it benefits both the environment and educational programs within Aspen School District.
