Auburn’s Improving Outlook: Tigers Ranked at No. 44 and High Expectations for Offensive Season

Auburn’s position in USA TODAY Sports’ post-spring re-rank?

After a successful offseason recruiting campaign, Auburn is seeing positive trends. The Tigers are now ranked at No. 44 out of 134 FBS programs, according to USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg. This is a significant improvement from Auburn’s No. 59 ranking prior to its Music City Bowl loss to Maryland.

The expectations for the Tigers this season are high, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Payton Thorne will have more options to improve his passing game with the addition of several wide receivers from both high school and the transfer portal. Freshman Cam Coleman had an impressive spring and stood out at A-Day with four catches for 92 yards and the game’s only touchdown. Auburn also landed two talented transfer receivers, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Robert Lewis, who were top receivers at Penn State and Georgia State respectively.

In Myerberg’s rankings, four SEC teams make up the top 10, with Georgia leading the way, followed by Texas, LSU, and Alabama. Auburn is set to face four teams ranked in the top 25 by Myerberg in the 2024 season, including Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
