On Saturday night, Austin FC secured their first win of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over FC Dallas. Julio Cascante and Diego Rubio both contributed to the team’s success by finding the back of the net.
Rubio scored his second goal of the season in the 70th minute, giving Austin a commanding 2-1 lead. The goal was set up by a perfect pass from Sebastián Driussi, who expertly redirected the ball past the defense and into the goal from close range. This proved to be the decisive moment in the match.
Dallas had taken an early lead when Eugene Ansah scored with a well-placed shot that beat Austin’s goalkeeper Brad Stuver. However, Cascante quickly responded for Austin, leveling the score just a few minutes later with a clever redirect of a cross played by Jon Gallagher.
Despite Dallas holding possession for much of the game, Austin dominated with 65% of the ball and outshot Dallas 16-7. Both Stuver and Dallas’ goalkeeper Maarten Paes made three saves each in a competitive match.
This win was crucial for Austin FC, who had been struggling early on in the season. Meanwhile, Dallas suffered their fourth consecutive loss after winning their season opener against San Jose Earthquakes.
