The IWF World Cup 2024, the final qualifying event for weightlifting at the Paris Olympics, is set to take place in Phuket, Thailand on Sunday. Australia’s weightlifting team for the event consists of seven members, including five women and two men. Among them are Commonwealth Games medallists Eileen Cikamatana and Sarah Cochrane.
The top 10 weightlifters in each Olympic weight category based on OQR will earn Olympic quotas for their national teams after the qualification cycle ends in April. Athletes participating in the IWF World Cup 2024 have the opportunity to improve their OQR ranking by achieving better results at this meet.
Eileen Cikamatana, currently fifth in the women’s 81kg on the OQR table, will compete in Group A of the same weight category in Phuket. Other Australian weightlifters such as Kiana Elliott, Brenna Kean, Sarah Cochrane, Jacqueline Nichelle, Oliver Saxton and Kyle Bruce will also be competing in their respective weight categories.
For those in Australia looking to watch the IWF World Cup 2024 live, the events will be live streamed on the International Weightlifting Federation’s Facebook page. The Australian team members will compete in different weight groups during the event.
