Battling Backlash: A Metaphysical Store Owner’s Fight for Community Inclusion

Following a backlash from some members of the community, the Winchester-Clark County Tourism Commission faced criticism for promoting an event hosted by The Crystal Coven in its newsletter. During a special meeting, the commission addressed the criticism it received and discussed its decision to promote the shop. This led to a large public turnout at the meeting, where individuals expressed opposing views about The Crystal Coven, with some accusing it of selling witchcraft-related items while others defended the shop and its owner, Shannon Tipton.

Since the meeting, Tipton has faced negative encounters with people who have spoken unkindly about her and her shop. She shared instances where she was insulted and received threatening phone calls, including one that threatened to burn down her shop. Despite these challenges, Tipton remains resilient and focused on continuing her business, emphasizing the peaceful coexistence of differing beliefs within the community.

Tipton reiterated that her shop is a metaphysical store that sells various items like stones, crystals, jewelry, herbs, apparel, incense, and more. She expressed gratitude for the customers who have shown her support and love throughout the ordeal, acknowledging their role in keeping her motivated to persevere. Despite the negativity surrounding her, Tipton remains determined to stay open and serve her community, recently renewing her business license as a testament to her commitment.
