Courtois left out of Belgium’s Euro 2024 squad

Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco has left Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois out of the Euro 2024 squad due to ongoing fitness concerns following a season plagued by injury. Despite starting four of Real Madrid’s last five La Liga games, Courtois was deemed unfit for the Euros by the coach, who emphasized the importance of having players ready for the tournament.

Tedesco acknowledged Courtois’ honesty about his physical condition and opted to select Koen Casteels, Matz Sels, and Thomas Kaminski as goalkeepers for the squad. The coach also included veteran players like Axel Witsel and Jan Vertonghen to provide experience and leadership to the team. With Belgium drawn into Group E alongside Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine, the team will face Montenegro and Luxembourg in friendly matches before traveling to Germany for the Euros.

The squad includes a mix of experienced players like Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, as well as young talents like Arthur Vermeeren and Aster Vranckx. The team’s goal is to build on their past success in international competitions and make a strong impression at the Euros. Although Courtois’ absence will be felt, Belgium is confident in the capabilities of the players selected to represent the country on the European stage.
