Bengals Defense Struggles with Yards in 2023, But Vets and Young Talent Point to Improved Performance in 2024

In the 2023 season, the Cincinnati Bengals defense struggled with allowing yards. Ranked 31st in the NFL, they faced a challenge for defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to improve their defense. Despite adding players such as Geno Stone and Sheldon Rankins, concerns remained about replacing the run-stuffing ability of former player DJ Reader.

However, there was optimism surrounding returning veterans like Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson, and Cam Taylor-Britt. According to a recent Sports Illustrated article ranking defensive triplets, this trio was ranked 25th in the league. Although they struggled last season and gave up a high number of yards, they were able to tighten up in the red zone and prevent teams from scoring touchdowns. Their performance suggests that they have the ability to prevent opponents from reaching the end zone.

With experienced players like Hendrickson, Wilson, and Taylor-Britt on board for another season, there is hope that the Bengals defense can improve their performance in 2024. Young players like Taylor-Britt also have potential for a breakout season that could motivate them to perform at a higher level and overcome any challenges they may face during the upcoming season.
