Bette Nash: The Record-Breaking Flight Attendant who Inspired Generations in the Aviation Industry

In 2022, Bette Nash earned the Guinness World Record title for the longest-serving flight attendant. This recognition came after she had battled breast cancer and passed away at the age of 88. Nash had served American Airlines for nearly 67 years, starting her career with Eastern Airlines in 1957. She was based in DC and preferred working the American Shuttle flight from Washington, DC, to Boston so she could be home every night to care for her son, who has Down Syndrome.

Throughout her career, the airline underwent several name changes, from Eastern Airlines to US Air Shuttle, among others. Nash’s dedication and passion for serving others inspired many generations of flight attendants. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants mourned her loss, acknowledging her as an integral part of their history.
