Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez has been suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the doping policy just two days after making his Major League debut. The 22-year-old Dominican tested positive for clomiphene, a banned performance-enhancing drug on the MLB’s list.
Despite his intentions, Martinez acknowledged his mistake and accepted his suspension. Having signed with the Blue Jays in 2018 for $3.5 million, Martinez had become one of the top power-hitting prospects in the minor leagues. Blue Jays executive vice president and general manager Ross Atkins expressed surprise and disappointment over Martinez’s suspension, promising to support him through the ordeal and help him learn from his mistake.
The Blue Jays currently sit in last place in the American League East division with a record of 35 wins and 41 losses. Despite this setback, the team remains committed to supporting their players and helping them grow both on and off the field.
