Bowling Green campus police officers are committed to ensuring the safety of students and residents through close collaboration with the city department. Recent technological advancements on campus have further emphasized this commitment.

Deputy Chief Jon Luidhardt of the Bowling Green State University Police Department stated that the strong relationship between campus and city departments is maintained not out of necessity, but out of mutual respect and the importance of communication. He emphasized that officers do not take enforcement actions in the city unless requested by BG city, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the two departments.

Campus police officers are also enhancing safety features throughout the campus through upgrades such as replacing blue light phones with cameras strategically placed around campus for constant monitoring. Upgrading handguns from 45mm to 9mm has been done to better ensure the safety of students and visitors. While most crimes involve underage offenses and theft, being prepared for any situation is essential.

The dedication to safety is evident in Deputy Chief Luidhardt’s statement that backup is only five minutes away, with an original response time of 90 seconds to 2 minutes, according to him. This ensures that students and residents feel safe and secure on campus.

Overall, the collaborative efforts of campus and city police along with technological upgrades demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the Bowling Green community.
