Breaking Barriers: Kentucky’s LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair Promotes Necessary Support Within the Healthcare Space

Kentucky’s First LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair

The Kentucky LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair took place in Lexington over the weekend, offering attendees valuable information about resources in the community. Spearheaded by Shannon Ashley, the event aimed to connect individuals with various organizations and services, primarily related to health and wellness.

Among the over 40 vendors present at the fair were health-related organizations and other groups like Camp Beacon, the Lexington Pride Center, and Trans Parent Lex. Attendees had the opportunity to access information from a wide range of providers and learn about available resources in the community. Rapid HIV tests were also offered for free to attendees.

Glenn Means, a member of the fair’s committee, emphasized that the event sends a powerful message of commitment to providing LGBTQ+ individuals with necessary support within the healthcare space. The success of the event has prompted discussions of potentially hosting it again next year.
