Coming Home: The Journey of Sasha Zhoya | FEATURE

As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approach, Sasha Zhoya is a French athlete with high hopes. Specializing in the 110m hurdles, he has shown great promise in recent years and is determined to make his mark on the world stage. In an interview with World Athletics Inside Track, he spoke about his determination and motivation for this Olympic year and beyond as he works towards breaking the world record.

Zhoya attributes his success to his mindset before races, where he convinces himself that he is the best and will win. With a background in ballet and music, he approaches each competition with a strong belief in his abilities. He set a world U20 record of 12.72 over the U20 height hurdles when he won his age group title in Nairobi, and now his focus is on breaking Aries Merritt’s senior world 110m hurdles record of 12.80.

Despite no longer holding the top spot as he did in the juniors, Zhoya feels a greater hunger to reach that level again. He envisions going even faster and breaking the 12.80 barrier. His ultimate goal is to win the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, on his home turf. With a strong belief in himself and a passion for competition, Zhoya is well-positioned to achieve his goals and make a lasting impact on the athletic world.
