Breaking Records: Women’s and Men’s Division at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and More

Miki Sudo breaks world record at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

On Thursday, Miki Sudo set a new world record for women at the annual Nathan’s hot dog eating contest by consuming 51 hot dogs in 10 minutes. This was her tenth consecutive victory as the defending champion. Meanwhile, Patrick Bertoletti won the men’s division with 58 hot dogs and buns in a 10-minute span, making him the first champion besides Joey Chestnut in 16 years.

Joey Chestnut was famously missing from the contest this year due to a ban imposed by the Major League Eating (MLE) organization. The ban was due to Chestnut’s sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, which conflicted with MLE’s long-standing partnership with Nathan’s Hot Dogs. Despite attempts by MLE and Nathan’s to accommodate Chestnut, he chose instead to participate in a rival unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day.

Instead of competing in Nathan’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, Chestnut scored a Netflix special that will stream live on Labor Day: Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef. For the first time in 15 years, he will face off with his longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi in a one-on-one match up. The time and location of the competition are still unknown.

In addition to these competitions, another record was set on Thursday when Eric Badland chugged an entire gallon of lemonade in just 21 seconds. When given the microphone after his achievement, Badland let out a victorious roar and cheered in celebration of his new world record.
