Breaking the Barrier: Kevin Costner Casts His Son in Major Western Film Role and Talks About Family Ties on Set

Kevin Costner’s “Selfish” Decision to Cast His Son in ‘Horizon’

In his upcoming Western film “Horizon: An American Saga,” Kevin Costner has cast his son Hayes in a significant role. While he anticipates criticism of nepotism in Hollywood, Costner explained that he wanted his son on set for companionship and not to take opportunities away from other actors.

Costner described Hayes as a beautiful and quiet boy who had not been forced into the business. As Nathaniel Kittredge, the teenage son of Sienna Miller’s character Frances, Hayes will be making his screen debut in “Horizon.” Costner’s character in the film is named Hayes Ellison after his son, and he described the experience of working together on set as a special time for them both.

Despite potential criticism, Costner praised his son’s performance in the film, calling it “really beautiful” and complimenting the complexity and nobility of his character. “Horizon: An American Saga” is set to be released on June 28 and is the first installment in Costner’s four-part franchise on America’s westward expansion post-Civil War. Chapter Two is scheduled to follow on August 16.
