Breaking the Cycle: Understanding and Overcoming Social Media Addiction for Better Mental Health and Well-being

Social media addiction is a growing problem that can have a negative impact on psychological health, social relationships, and work performance. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are now an integral part of many people’s daily routines. They offer users a wide range of content, including images, videos, articles, and engaging information. However, the habit of using social media can become addictive for some individuals.

According to Master Vuong Nguyen Toan Thien from Lumos Counseling and Psychotherapy Center in Vietnam, social media addiction is on the rise among many Vietnamese people of all ages. In children and adolescents, excessive use of social media can hinder language development and direct communication skills while exposing them to online harassment and unhealthy comparisons. Young adults may experience reduced study and work efficiency due to lack of focus or heightened stress from comparing themselves to others on social platforms. Older adults might feel lonelier due to limited face-to-face interactions or potential online security risks.

Furthermore, excessive use of electronic devices at night can lead to sleep disturbances, visual fatigue, psychological stress, musculoskeletal issues like back pain or neck pain. Prolonged exposure to social media and digital devices can also contribute to mental health challenges such as loneliness, stress or anxiety. Therefore detoxification from social media addiction is necessary for individuals who want to improve their mental health and well-being.

Overcoming social media addiction requires determination, mental readiness and sometimes support from a psychologist. It’s essential for individuals who want to break free from this habit to seek professional help if they need it.

In conclusion, social media addiction is a growing problem that affects individuals across all age groups globally. Excessive use of platforms like Facebook or Instagram can hinder language development in children or young adults’ study performance while older adults might feel more isolated due to limited face-to-face interactions or potential online security risks.

Detoxification from this habit requires determination but also professional help if needed. Overcoming this issue will allow individuals to improve their mental health and well-being ultimately leading them to live happier lives overall.
