Breaking the Groupism Rumors: Pakistan Cricket Team’s Shahid Afridi Blames Poor Captaincy and Performances for T20 World Cup Exit

Shahid Afridi’s Frustration Boils Over When Discussing T20 World Cup Collapse

In an interview with Samaa TV, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi denied rumors of groupism within the team following their early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup. He instead blamed poor performances and poor captaincy as the reasons for Pakistan’s disappointing campaign.

Afridi criticized Babar Azam’s leadership as a major factor in their poor performance. He pointed out that there have never been any groups within the team in previous years and that recent talk of groupism is a sign of weak leadership.

The younger generation of fans and social media have been accused of spreading rumors about groupism, with Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar among those who have spoken out against it. The team has faced criticism for their lackluster performances in the T20 World Cup, with losses to USA and India leading to their group stage exit.

Despite this setback, Pakistan still has a chance to salvage some pride before exiting the tournament with a final Group A game against Ireland. Afridi emphasized the need for improved cricketing performances from both batsmen and bowlers to address the team’s shortcomings.
