This year, Wienerberger has awarded the Brick Award 2024 to five international projects that have showcased the diversity and versatility of brick architecture. The aim of this award is to recognize pioneers in the field of brick architecture and support innovative solutions that address environmental and social challenges in the construction industry.
The Brick Award was first launched in 2004 and is awarded every two years. From 734 projects submitted from 54 countries, five winners in five categories were chosen for their aesthetics, innovation, and sustainability. These projects highlight the beauty and functionality of brick as a building material while also addressing pressing issues such as environmental concerns and accessibility needs.
One of the winning projects is the International Rugby Experience in Ireland, which uses bricks extensively to create an immersive experience for visitors. Another project is the Apartment building M 5605 in Argentina, which features geometric spatial structures created using bricks. The Public Pavilion in Spain also showcases the versatility of brick by using it to create unique sculptures and installations that are both functional and visually striking.
The Intermediate House in Paraguay demonstrates how bricks can be used to create sustainable housing solutions that are both comfortable and energy-efficient. Finally, the Electricity Supply Board Headquarters in Ireland uses bricks not only as a building material but also as a symbol of its commitment to environmental responsibility by incorporating solar panels into its design.
The Brick Award continues to celebrate and promote the use of brick in innovative and sustainable ways in architecture and construction, recognizing its potential as a versatile building material that can be adapted for any purpose while still retaining its inherent beauty.
