Bridge Collapse In Baltimore Sparks Conspiracy Theories, Despite Authorities’ Denial of Criminal Activity

In the aftermath of a bridge collapse in Baltimore due to a container ship hitting it, conspiracy theories began to circulate on social media platforms despite authorities finding no evidence of criminal activity. The Singapore-flagged ship struck a pier of the Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday, causing it to collapse. Six workers who were repairing potholes on the bridge are missing and presumed dead.

The incident sparked various theories on social media, with some implicating different groups such as terrorists or foreign agents in the supposed attack. Influencers like Andrew Tate and conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones also added fuel to the speculations, suggesting cyber attacks and hinting at the possibility of a Third World War. However, Singapore port authorities reported that the collapse was due to a “momentary loss of propulsion” of the ship, as seen in video surveillance footage.

Despite this explanation, rumors continued to circulate, with some linking the incident to conflicts in Gaza or questioning diversity initiatives by companies. Authorities reiterated that there was no indication of a terrorist attack, with Baltimore police chief Richard Worley and Maryland Governor Wes Moore making this clear. However, these assurances did little to quell the conspiracy theories that continued to gain traction online, with various interpretations of the incident being put forward by different individuals and groups.

In conclusion, while there is no evidence of criminal activity or terrorist attacks related to the bridge collapse in Baltimore, conspiracy theories continue to persist online. It is important for authorities and experts to continue working together to debunk these false claims and provide accurate information about what happened on that fateful day.
