Amir Abdur-Rahim’s contract as USF basketball coach extended

The University of South Florida (USF) has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, ensuring his presence with the Bulls until 2030. Although financial details have not been disclosed, the contract extension is expected to come with a substantial salary increase.

The decision to extend Abdur-Rahim’s contract was made after a successful first season with the team where he led the Bulls to a conference championship, packed crowds at the Yuengling Center, and an exciting style of play. Athletic director Michael Kelly praised Amir’s leadership and vision, stating that his impact on the team had resulted in one of the most memorable seasons in Bulls basketball history.

During his first season, Abdur-Rahim oversaw a remarkable turnaround for the team, achieving a school-record 25 victories and leading the Bulls to their first conference regular-season title as well as a spot in the NIT. The team’s success on the court was complemented by their academic achievements, recording a collective 3.20 GPA for the 2023-2024 academic year. Abdur-Rahim’s performance earned him the title of American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

As USF looks ahead to future seasons under Abdur-Rahim’s leadership, they are looking to continue building on their momentum and successes both on and off the court. For more sports updates on Tampa Bay teams, sign up for our Sports Today newsletter and follow coverage on Instagram, Twitter
