Canceled: Portland’s Annual Naked Bike Ride Officially Calls it Quits for 2024

The annual World Naked Bike Ride in Portland, which has been a long-standing tradition for decades, serves as a protest against dependence on pollution-based transportation. However, the city will not see the familiar sight of nude cyclists riding through the streets in 2024.

The organizers of the Portland World Naked Bike Ride (PDXWNBR) have announced the cancellation of the official 2024 event. They cited delays in planning and recruiting leadership as the reasons behind the decision. Planning such a protest requires months of preparation to ensure safety and accessibility for all participants.

The PDXWNBR organizers emphasized the importance of meeting high standards for the event. They mentioned the need for comprehensive volunteer organization, neighborhood outreach, and coordination with local agencies. Additionally, they highlighted the positive impact of planning on making the protest a welcoming and inclusive experience.

While some Portland residents may be disappointed by the cancelation, event organizers mentioned alternative opportunities. Monthly full moon rides are one option, and volunteers are sought for the 2025 naked bike ride. Those interested can apply to join the PDXWNBR Leadership Committee by a specified deadline.

The organizers expressed their commitment to ensuring that future events are done right and that they are building a diverse team of volunteers. They encouraged community members to get involved and welcome individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds to contribute their leadership skills to the event.

Despite being one of Portland’s largest events, drawing in 10,000 participants in 2019, this year’s event has been canceled due to delays in planning and leadership recruitment. However, organizers remain focused on strengthening future events while emphasizing their commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

The rich history of this event started back in 2004, serving as a protest against pollution-based transportation while promoting body positivity and human connection through cycling community rides.
