Capturing Moments and Memories: Remembering Tom Dodge, Eunice’s Legendary Sports Photographer

Tom Dodge, beloved sports photographer, mourned by Eunice community

Tom Dodge, a renowned sports reporter, found his passion for capturing powerful images at Eunice La-Blue Jay Field on Magnolia Road. For almost 30 years, he dedicated himself to documenting the essence of sports and the community through his work at the Daily World and Eunice News.

It was during those years that Tom captured memories that would live on forever in the hearts of the people of Eunice. From high school sports to community events, his camera was always ready to capture the perfect shot at just the right moment. St. Edmund High School football coach James Shiver fondly remembers how Tom always seemed to capture the most important moments in sports, whether it was a basket being made or a game-winning shot.

One of Tom’s dearest friends and mentees, Dwight Jodon, recalls their many conversations about life while spending time together on the sidelines of sports events. Jodon notes that Tom was more than just a photographer; he was a friend who shared experiences beyond just capturing moments on film. Their bond went beyond photography and sports as they talked about life in general.

As we say goodbye to Tom on this Father’s Day weekend, we can all agree that his presence and his work will be greatly missed in the sports community. His absence at recent events like the 7-on-7 tournament serves as a reminder of his impact on our community. His legacy will live on through the memories he captured and shared with us all.
