Cardinal Pitcher Sonny Gray Makes History Against Former Team Oakland A’s

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Sonny Gray made history on Monday as he earned his 100th career win against his former team, the Oakland Athletics. The highly-coveted offseason signing once again proved his worth for the Cardinals by pitching six scoreless innings and striking out six in a road start, securing his second win in as many games as the Cardinals won 3-1.

Gray, who was the Athletics’ first-round draft pick in 2011, reflected on his time with the team and the many memories he has made at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. Winning 44 games with Oakland, he also earned his first MLB win at the stadium nearly a decade ago. This win against his former team holds special significance as it will be his last start at the stadium before the Athletics relocate to Sacramento next season and then move to Las Vegas in 2028.

Starting his Cardinals career strong, Gray has had two scoreless outings since coming off the injured list due to a hamstring strain. In Monday’s game, key hits from Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras, and Jordan Walker contributed to the 3-1 victory. The three-game series at the Bay continues through Wednesday, with fans eagerly anticipating more strong performances from Gray and the rest of the Cardinals team.
