Catholic Employee Sues Tobii Dynavox for Religious Discrimination in Vaccine Mandate Case

In a recent lawsuit, Tobii Dynavox LLC faced setbacks as they were accused of discriminating against a Catholic employee who was fired for not complying with a Covid-19 vaccine mandate. The case was brought before the US District Court for the Central District of California, where the company’s request for a pretrial victory was denied.

The court noted that it was uncertain whether accommodating the employee’s religious beliefs would have created an undue burden for Tobii Dynavox. The company, which provides assistive communication technology and has contracts with the federal government, was under an executive order mandating vaccinations.

Christina Carroll, the plaintiff in the case, had been employed as a salesperson for Tobii Dynavox since 2016. The company is a subsidiary of DynaVox Inc. Although the court did not rule in favor of Tobii Dynavox’s motion for summary judgment, the case will proceed to trial to determine whether the company violated anti-discrimination laws by terminating Carroll for refusing to get vaccinated due to her religious beliefs.
