Dutch women win the Marjorie Giles All-Sports Trophy

Central College women’s athletics teams recently won the Marjorie Giles All-Sports Championship Trophy, marking the first time since the 2003-04 academic year. The Dutch men finished third in the Elmer Hertel All-Sports Trophy standings with 50.5 points. Central also placed second in the Combined All-Sports Trophy standings.

Central’s women’s teams won conference championships in softball and dance, as well as earning runner-up finishes in golf and cross country. Overall, the women’s teams secured eight top-four finishes. On the men’s side, the Dutch did not win any conference titles but had strong showings with a runner-up finish in cross country and third-place finishes in football, golf, and basketball.

Points were awarded in each sport based on conference titles, with nine points given to the champion and decreasing amounts for lower-placed teams. The women’s teams at Central College had an outstanding performance this season, securing several top spots in their respective sports. Softball and dance were both championship sports for them, while they finished runners up in golf and cross country. Their success was not limited to one sport; they also had strong showings across multiple sports.

Central has a rich history of all-sports titles on both sides of gender lines. The men have won 14 all-sports titles over the years, while the women have achieved 10 victories of their own. This recent win marks yet another milestone for this esteemed institution and its athletes who continue to strive for excellence in their chosen fields.
