Chasing Olympic Dreams: One Man’s Quest to Qualify for Paris 2024

Guide to watching the 2024 World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament live in Australia

In Bangkok, Thailand, Adrian Paoletti will compete in the second and final World Boxing Qualification Tournament starting on Friday. The tournament will take place at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium and offer quotas in all 13 weight categories, with each country limited to one quota per category. Australia has previously obtained 12 quotas at the Pacific Games in Honiara last year, leading to the selection of a 12-member Australian boxing team for the Paris Olympics. However, athletes must be selected by their National Olympic Committees to participate in the Games.

Paoletti competed in the first qualification tournament in Italy but was unable to secure a quota. He has been training in Thailand under national boxing coach Marcos Amado in preparation for the upcoming qualifiers. This tournament marks the final opportunity for boxers to qualify for the Olympics, with the qualification period ending on May 31. A total of 51 Olympics quotas will be available at the Bangkok meet, with 28 for men and 23 for women. The men’s 92kg division, in which Paoletti will compete, will have four quotas up for grabs.
