Reports have emerged that Chelsea are set to sign Basel midfielder Renato Veiga in a £12m deal. This move is the latest in a string of young talent acquisitions by the Blues, including Estevao Willian and Marc Guiu this summer. Veiga, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder with experience at centre-back and on the left side of defense, has agreed to join Chelsea.
In addition to Veiga, Chelsea is also close to finalizing a deal to bring Boca Juniors center-back Aaron Anselmino to Stamford Bridge on loan for the next 12 months, with an option for Chelsea to bring him to the club permanently in January 2025 if necessary. Anselmino’s arrival will further strengthen Chelsea’s youth development program known as “Project 2030,” which also includes the signing of Ecuador midfielder Kendry Paez.
The recent departure of key figures from Chelsea’s academy, Neil Bath and Jim Fraser, has sparked concerns about the future of the club’s youth development plan. However, despite this uncertainty, Chelsea remains committed to investing in young talent as they work towards building a strong foundation for the future.
