Chelsea’s Quest for a Striker: Jonathan David and Marc Guiu on Their Radar Amidst Setbacks

Chelsea in talks for transfers of Lille’s David and Barcelona’s Guiu

Chelsea is currently considering their options in the striker market as both David and Guiu are approaching the final year of their contracts at their respective clubs. The Blues have expressed interest in Lille’s Jonathan David and Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu.

Despite setbacks in negotiations for potential signings, including a swap deal for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and a £34m bid for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, Chelsea is eager to secure a new striker following talks with new manager Enzo Maresca in Marbella.

Jonathan David, who is currently representing Canada in the Copa America, has been the subject of early talks with Chelsea. With just one year left on his contract at Lille, he could be available for less than £30m. However, competition for his signature is strong from Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham.

In addition to David, Chelsea is also eyeing Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu. The 18-year-old has a contract with Barcelona that expires next summer and includes a £5m release clause. Despite being in talks to renew his deal with Barcelona, Guiu is also attracting interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea’s pursuit of attacking options extends to a winger as well after missing out on primary target Michael Olise who chose to join Bayern Munich instead. On the defensive front, Chelsea has agreed to send Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa for £37.5m while midfielder Omari Kellyman is set to move in the opposite direction for £19m in a separate deal.
