The Chengdu Research Center in Sichuan province, known for its conservation efforts towards the endangered giant panda, has taken action against 12 tourists from various countries by imposing lifetime bans on them. These sanctions were imposed due to incidents of tourists throwing lollipop sticks, cigarettes, eggs, and bread at pandas as well as spitting in the direction of a pup play area. It was reported by CNN that no pandas were harmed during these incidents.
In addition to lifetime bans, the research center may also impose sanctions such as deprivation of entry rights for one or five years on offenders who mistreat giant pandas. Established in 1987, the center is a popular attraction in the province known for its conservation efforts towards the endangered species.
