The collaboration between Ghana and Italy in initiatives like the Don Bosco training center and the ‘Gabinia’ operation on the Bettica ship serves as a model for replication in other places. During his final day of mission in West Africa, Sergio Mattarella visited the Don Bosco training center in Ashaiman, just outside Accra, which has been active for 25 years. Young chefs and workers trained at this center will have the opportunity to specialize for thirty days in the North East of Italy, where they will enter with an employment contract, accommodation provided by entrepreneurs joining the initiative promoted by Confindustria Alto Adriatico, and Italian language courses.
Mattarella highlighted the effectiveness of the training model for young people in Ghana and the industries in Italy’s North East, allowing the youth to decide whether to continue in Italy or return home. The collaboration between Ghana and Italy in initiatives like these reflects a broader context of friendship and shared visions. The project is part of the Mattei plan and utilizes legal migration quotas established by the Cutro decree.
Before returning to Italy, Mattarella visits the Bettica ship, a patrol vessel of the Navy involved in the ‘Gabinia’ operation in the Gulf of Guinea to combat piracy. He acknowledges
