Collins Aerospace recently unveiled a new economy class seat designed specifically for single-aisle aircraft. Named Helix, this innovative seat focuses on reducing weight without sacrificing passenger comfort during flights.
The updated frame design of Helix offers several benefits, including improved seat back angles for enhanced comfort and better cushion integration for increased product life and consistency across cabins. Helix utilizes composite materials with a high strength-to-weight ratio to minimize weight compared to previous seat generations, resulting in reduced fuel burn and emissions.
Furthermore, the new seatback design allows for enhanced integration of inflight entertainment solutions, tray tables, and literature stowage. Although Collins Aerospace has not yet announced any confirmed customers, they have been in discussions with several airlines to bring Helix to market by mid-2026.
