Colombia’s Southwestern Crisis: President Petro Dismisses General Ospina Amid Increased Violence

The Colombian government announced on Monday that General Luis Mauricio Ospina, the commander of the Army, had been dismissed amid a security crisis in the southwest of the country. General Cardozo Santamaría has over 35 years of experience serving in various capacities within the Army. He holds a degree in Military Sciences from the General Military Cadet School and possesses a master’s degree in Security and Defense Studies. Additionally, he received training in engineering before being appointed as head of commandos for Air Assault Aviation and commander of the Eighth Division prior to becoming Army Commander.
