Combatting Addiction through Collaboration: Kentucky River Health Consortium Hosts ‘Picking Up the Pieces’

The Kentucky River Health Consortium hosted an event called “Picking up the Pieces” at the Perry County Public Library, with a goal of making a positive impact on the lives of those in the Kentucky River Region. During this event, officials emphasized the importance of understanding that addiction is not always a choice but can be a result of chronic diseases like diabetes that require medication for treatment.

Frances Feltner, Director of the Center of Excellence in Rural Health, spoke about the need for family and friends to support and assist individuals struggling with addiction. The event brought together various organizations through the Kentucky River Health Consortium to collaborate and share resources on addressing addiction.

Key topics discussed during this event included Casey’s Law, which offers legal intervention for family members to help individuals struggling with addiction. Attendees, including Andrew who shared his personal journey battling substance abuse, highlighted the importance of family support and resources like Casey’s Law in overcoming addiction.
