Cricket Legend Shahid Afridi Slams Groupism Rumors, Calls for Better Leadership and Performance from Pakistan

Cricket fans around the world were disappointed with Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup. Despite this, former captain Shahid Afridi has denied rumors of groupism within the team, attributing their poor performance to bad cricket and weak leadership. In particular, he pointed to Babar Azam’s captaincy as a major factor in Pakistan’s struggles.

In an interview on Samaa TV, Afridi emphasized that there have never been any groups within the team in the past and that the emergence of such divisions now is a sign of weak leadership. He also criticized younger fans on social media for spreading rumors without a full understanding of the game, stating that the current generation lacks the knowledge of previous eras.

Afridi underscored the need for better performances from Pakistan’s batsmen and bowlers, noting that their struggles are primarily due to a lack of skill on the field. With losses to USA and India in their first two matches, Pakistan’s hopes of advancing in the tournament were dashed when their final match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain. Now facing criticism from cricketing legends like Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, the team has one final chance to salvage some pride in their last group stage game against Ireland.
