Danish Golfer Jacob Skov Olesen Makes History at Ballyliffin Amateur Championship

Amateur Championship claimed by Denmark’s Olesen

Jacob Skov Olesen made history by becoming the first Danish player to win the Amateur Championship. He defeated England’s Dominic Clemons 4&3 in a 36-hole final at Ballyliffin. Olesen took control early on, going two up after the first 18 holes. He then dominated the final, winning four consecutive holes to lead by six after the 23rd hole.

Despite Clemons making a comeback by winning the 27th and 28th holes with a birdie and an eagle, Olesen remained composed and secured victory on the 15th green at the Glashedy course. Olesen’s win not only earned him the Amateur Championship title but also secured him a spot in next month’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, the 2025 US Open, and an invitation to play in the Masters.

In an interview with R&A TV after his win, Olesen expressed his emotions, saying, “It hasn’t really sunk in, but I’m so happy and so proud and so thankful for everyone. Overall, an emotional day.” Clemons, who recently won the Scottish Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, put up a strong fight but ultimately fell short against Olesen’s impressive play.

The tournament featured stroke play qualifying at both the Old Links and Glashedy courses at Ballyliffin. The venue hosted its second major event of the year as it welcomed back players from around
