Deadly Mushroom Edibles Recalled in North Dakota: Health Officials Urge Caution Amid Ongoing Investigation

Health officials in North Dakota are urging residents to avoid consuming recalled mushroom edibles from Prophet Premium Blends Diamond Shruumz products. These items were recalled on June 28, according to a statement from the North Dakota Health and Human Services. It is advised that residents do not sell, serve or consume these products, which include chocolate bars, cones, gummies and related items that may still be available online or in stores selling hemp-derived, smoking and vaping products.

The Health and Human Services department along with the poison control center have identified a death in North Dakota that may be linked to the Diamond Shruumz products. They are collaborating with the Food and Drug Administration and other state partners to investigate this incident. The recalled products contain muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the Amanita genus, which could lead to symptoms experienced by individuals who became ill after consuming these products.

As of July 2nd, according to the FDA, there have been 48 reported illnesses in 24 states related to these products. Out of these 46 individuals sought medical attention while 27 were hospitalized. Symptoms of poisoning include seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, abnormal heart rates, irregular blood pressure, nausea and vomiting.
