Dexter High School Introduces Music Technology Course to Prepare Students for 21st Century Industries

In line with its strategic plan to prepare students for the 21st century, Dexter High School is set to introduce a new course named Music Technology. The course aims to nurture creativity, critical thinking and technological proficiency in students, equipping them with skills applicable to modern industries.

The proposal for the new course was presented by Grace Wolfe, Director of Bands at DHS, during a meeting with the school board on April 29th. Wolfe highlighted the importance of offering such a course at DHS, stating that it would provide students with skills relevant to contemporary music production and technology-driven music industries.

Students participating in the Music Technology course will have an opportunity to explore various software, technologies and musical devices in a hands-on setting. Wolfe emphasized that the course is designed for students with diverse musical backgrounds, experience levels and interests; creating an environment where they can collaborate and inspire one another.

The course will cover core concepts such as digital audio production, sound design, music software proficiency, electronic composition, MIDI sequencing and an understanding of emerging technologies in the music industry. Martha Greaterox, President of Dexter Community Schools Board of Education expressed excitement about the new course noting that it will provide an excellent opportunity for music program students as well as those who want to be involved in music but may not play a musical instrument. The Music Technology course will be introduced in the upcoming school year.
